About Fox Covert
Who is Fox Covert?
Fox Covert is James Sheahan – an award-nominated game designer of almost 20 years. Working in games for the last 30 years, James has worked on video games board games, tabletop role-playing games, wargames, games as advertising campaigns, gamification, escape rooms, and more.
James was the designer of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare – a tabletop wargame based on the Fallout videogame franchise.
in 2024, James was a speaker at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. In 2026, James’s first book was published by CRC Press (Taylor & Francis), titled The Game Designer’s Guide to Converting Licenses to Tabletop.
Why Fox Covert?
While I’d like to say it was a clever construct to manifest the idea of a cunning fox sneaking around town under the noses of those unaware around them, the name came while working as a supermarket delivery driver during the pandemic. As I tuned into a road, I noticed the name was Fox Covert and those words sparked some interaction in my brain. They really called to me and I knew I needed to use them in a game project – maybe it was an organisation, a codename, a person – I didn’t know what, but I knew I wanted to use it.
When I started creating my first outdoor escape room, I realised how well it fit and that was that. It’s funny how some ideas are inspiration, most are hard work, and some just require you to leave your mind open to let in what is around you.
“Were there any other names like that?” I hear you ask. Well, yes – and thanks for asking – there was one other, and it was another road name. But that tale is for another day…
Fox Covert is dedicated to creating immersive, outdoor puzzle experiences that challenge the mind and foster teamwork. The aim is to deliver engaging, high-quality games which captivate players and inspire memorable adventures.
While we all must set aside some time each day to get a little bit older, it doesn’t mean we can’t play games every day to make sure we also feel a little bit younger.
